Handler Classes for Law Enforcement

Each Department purchasing a Narcotic Detector dog from Southern Star Ranch K9 Training Center must attend this course. It is designed to teach the first time Handler the in’s and out’s of learning how to use their canine to their maximum potential. Course instruction includes temperament requirements of a dog; basic principles of dog training; scent and effects of temperature, humidity and air currents; training drills; building, vehicle, and open area searches; and health care of the animal. Departments who need to have a new handler trained with an existing dog will also find this course helpful. This course is a two week program.

Master Trainer Classes for Law Enforcement

This course was designed to aid the Department’s needs for an “In-House” trainer. The student will be taught all the necessary steps to take a untrained dog and teach the dog how to become a Narcotic Detector Dog and/or Tracking dog. This is a 6 week program and can be tailored to meet each Department’s individual need.
